You never forget the first time you receive a bunch of flowers right? In fact, as a little girl - You also never forget the first time you see a real Bride. The first time you're a Bridesmaid and get to wear the most wonderful fabrics and 'swooshy' fabric somehow indents in your core memories. Even to the non-believers and anti-traditionalists, there's something truly magical about Weddings.
I can remember receiving my first ever flower delivery. I was just 17 and worked in advertising sales for my local newspaper. My boyfriend was a little older and I guess the boys I'd previously dated weren't on the flower-ordering salaries. There was a dozen red roses and the magic of the surprise and gift has stayed with me ever since.
When I reached a crossroads once having my son and having to make a decision about returning to work, I was forced to really dig deep and find something that was worth swaying me away from George. Combining flowers with my love for all things wedding resulted in the opening of Flowers by Tanya.
As I moved into my third year of weddings and events floristry, I still love driving past a church on a wedding day and seeing an excited Bride exit her wedding car. I believe the soft-spot will never leave me.
